Northern Spy x M 1 

 

Size compared to seedling:

70% 
 

Tolerances:

Variable soil conditions but not suitable in heavy clays 
 

Resistances:

Woolly apple aphid 
 

Susceptibilities:

Phytophthora, fumigation required in replant situations. 
 

Precocity:

Precocious and productive 

 

Support:

Can be freestanding but support recommended when trees are young due to high precocity 

   

 

 

Notes

MM 106 was the standard rootstock in New Zealand until the 1990's, when medium density orchards
of 660-800 trees/ha were the norm.
Training of branches necessary in young trees on vigorous soils.
